The award in Memory of budding film maker Srinivas Rao is given every year.The winner for 2008 was PARESH MOKASHI for his film 'HARISH CHANDRACHI FACTORY '(Marathi).
The film was selected from 19nominations from across the country in many languages including Hindi, Malayalam, Tamil, Marathi, Telugu and Kannada. The Jury consisted of Sri Singeetam Srinivasa Rao, Sri Kalyanaraman and Sri Gollapudi Maruthi Rao. This is the 12th year in a row, where the Best Indian Directorial Talent in feature films is being recognized by the Chennai based foundation.
The award was presented by actress Rekha along with Rasul pookutty. Every year, a proud and creative young director somewhere in India has taken the award along with a cash prize (Rs. 1.5 lakhs) for his first film. His debut film signifying creativity and quality is selected by a learned jury from among the many films entered for an award that has been gaining greater and greater national recognition.
The foundation aims to strengthen the moral fabric of society by encouraging original, compassionate and sensitive thought in the inspiring visual medium of films. The award focuses exclusively on emerging talent which is something G Srinivas personified most in his brief life and is appropriately given away on the day he died.
The award is given to the first film made by a director in any Indian language
