Suriya in Aaru resembles the hot-headed, villains-beware, moustache-grooming, all-male character of Vikram in Saamy. Aaru (Suriya) is a street-smart henchman to Viswanath (Ashish Vidyarthi).
The plot thickens, when Viswanath wants to start a protest at a political event and tells Aaru to arrange a suicide drama. Aaru arranges for a team of five men to stage the protest. The twist in the tale comes in when Viswanath arranges for these five men to really get killed. He also arranges a thug Adi (Jaya Prakash Reddy) to kill Aaru.
The rest of the story is all about how Aaru takes revenge against Viswanath. Suriya has done this film well – he has portrayed a true-blue action hero, complete with hot-headed attitude and tons of angst and temper.
Trisha as the pretty and bubbly heroine gives the intense action drama a breather every now and then. Ashish Vidyarthi is truly hateful and scary as a villain. Kalabhavanmani has played the role of a cop superbly and Vadivelu delivers his comedy with aplomb, as usual.
As Suriya and Trisha both said, this movie is a complete masala entertainer with a bit of everything – action, comedy, “gaanaa” songs, you name it. The film is yet another revenge story.

Director Hari, known for his knack of making action films has done it again. Priyan, wielding the camera, has done a good work too. Art direction is by Kathir and film editing by Vijayan. Devi Sri Prasad’s music is needless to say, great. Suriya is a versatile actor and Trisha’s bubbly self adds sparkle to the team. The first half of the film seems to drag a little but the second half more than makes up for it with nail-biting thrills and action. Aaru is sure to be a sixer!
