Kadhir (Ravi Krishna) belongs to a lower middle class family and lives with his parents and his younger sister in Rainbow Colony. He is seen by the others in the community as a good for nothing fellow as he skips classes, fails in exams, gets involved in fights, goes behind girls and hangs out with number of friends. Kadhir also thinks that his father (Vijayan) hates him and often quarrels with him, even threatening to leave the house once for all, only to be persuaded not to do so by his mother.Kadhir's life changes when a North Indian family moves into the same colony to house number 7/G, below Kadhir's house. Kadhir finds that the family has a beautiful Hindi girl, Anita (Sonia Agarwal) and is attracted to her gradually. Kadhir tries to garner her attention but Anita has a poor opinion on him after watching his antics like creating trouble in a movie theatre, interrupting her performance during a colony get-together.At one point of time Kadhir confesses to Anita that he is in love with her. He tells her that having been ridiculed always, he found respite in the fact that she at least cared to look at him. But he promises to wipe her thoughts out of his mind, as he is not the right match for her.He is however unable to keep up his words and continues to pursue her. Anita begins to realize that Kadhir is not such a useless fellow, when his best friend tells her that he has the skill to dismantle and assemble any motorcycle within minutes. She takes Kadhir to a Hero Honda dealer and requests them to offer him a job. He is promised a job if he is able to assemble the parts of a bike. Initially, Kadhir is disinterested and gives up the task. She tells him that she loves him and asks how he would take care of her without even a job in his hand. A very happy Kadhir then demonstrates his skill in motorcycle assembly, thereby securing a job with the dealer.His father feels proud for the first time in his life of his son, when Kadhir gives him his offer letter. Though he refuses to openly acknowledge the efforts of Kadhir, he appreciates Kadhir secretly to his wife later that night. Having overheard the conversation, Kadhir realizes his father's love for him. Anita manages to change Kadhir into a responsible person and he slowly drops all his bad habits.The intimacy between Kadhir and Anita is soon discovered by her mother and she refuses to their marriage even as Kadhir's father tries to persuade her to have them married. This is because Anita's family is heavily indebted to another Hindi family who have been financially supporting them ever since Anita's father suffered losses in his business. As a show of gratitude, Anita's parents want to get Anita to married to the son of the family who have been helping them.As matters get out of control, Anita with the help of her friends escapes from her home confinement and gets to meet Kadhir and they both end up in a room in a hotel. Anita reveals to Kadhir that she has taken the biggest decision of her life by deciding to sleep with him, as he should not regret falling in love with her when she marries the guy chosen by her parents. Though initially stunned by her decision, Kadhir ends up making love with her. The next morning Kadhir and Anita start to argue when Kadhir says he wants Anita to live with him forever, while Anita accuses him of being attracted to her only because of the need for sex.They continue arguing as they exit the hotel. Upon crossing the road, Anita is knocked down by a truck, even as a helpless Kadhir watches the horrible accident right before his eyes. Kadhir is also hit by a speeding vehicle soon and now the scene shifts to the hospital where everyone is mourning Anita's demise and a badly wounded Kadhir tries to get a glimpse of his lady love even as he is stopped by his friends. Kadhir finds out that the only remains from the accident is her hand thus indicating the brutality of the accident. He tells Anita's father that she was innocent and that he was the one responsible for demeaning her. Having realized that it is a lie to save her husband who is a heart patient, a relieved yet saddened Anita's mother blesses him and leaves the hospital.Later, Kadhir is shown trying to be unsuccessful in committing suicide as he survives everytime. His last attempt leads to utter chaos in a busy city road and leads to several people beating him up. He is saved by a small group of nuns and as they try to talk to him, he sees Anita passing by. He runs to confront her and Anita then asks Kadhir not to commit suicide as God wants him to continue with his life. Kadhir then continues with his job and every evening he meets Anita and they discuss the happenings of the day. It is understood that Anita is visible only to Kadhir and she comes to speak with him everyday so that he does not feel her loss anymore as well as he can continue his existence on earth
