Dorai (Arjun) is a do-gooder don. But a police force led by ACP Easwara Pandian (Prakash Raj)and his side kick (Sathyan) are after him. However, the poor need him as he is a Good Samaritan running an orphanage. He has help from his friends(Manivannan and Vadivelu). But Dorai has a problem. His mother (Sujatha) doesn’t approve of his ways. She feels that he is just a loutish goon. There is also Anjali (Mallika Kapoor), a TV journo, who is in love with Dorai because of his dare devil ways. Dorai has a past too. He was just an honest-to-goodness school teacher, who ends up as the deathly Dorai after a fire ravages a school and kills several children. The incident forces him to take on the system of venal officials and politicos. Now, Dorai’s biggest task is to nip a dark and dire politician who wants to bomb the city. Kokkisamy (Karan) is a taciturn villager comes to Chennai. Subbu Raj (Malaysia Vasudean) who runs a salon takes care of Kokki. He helps get Kokki a job abroad.
One day, he chances upon a local thug Uppili (Kota Srinivasa Rao) who controls the city. Uppili is a strong believer in astrology and takes advice from his in-house astrologer (Manicka Vinayagam). As per the astrologer's advice, Uppili wakes up to the sight of an Ayyanar statue.
One day Kokki comes to Uppili's house to hair dress one of his men. That day, Uppili wakes up and sees Kokki instead of the statue. Everything that he does that day works in his favor. The superstitious Uppili now wants to have Kokki around as a harbinger of good luck. But Kokki refuses and his life was not the same from there on.

Kokki manages to escape from jail and is on the run, with Uppili and his gang along with the cops on his trail. He hides in a ladies hostel where he meets Raji (Sanjana), who decides to help him after hearing his story. The remaining story is all about Kokki escapes from prison and how he avenges Uppili.
