 As the name indicates, the storyline is entirely different. The story is based on the real life incidents that took place in Kanyakumari, ten years ago. 
 'There are two heroes in this film. Karan and Story! We have presented the storyline without distorting the authenticity, without any ornamentation, without any cinematic shade. Each and every frame will demonstrate reality' says Director V.C. Vadivudayan. 

 'After deciding on the film, we listened to stories from not less than fifty to sixty persons. None of their stories touched me deeply except this' says Producer Senthilkumar.  

The story  

In Tamil Nadu, Kanyakumari is a significant district in the sense that it is an abode of educated masses. Likewise, the place is well known for crime rate as well. What is the basis for this contradiction? Does education induce one to commit crime? What is the driving force that takes youths from this district to such an extreme situation? Generations after generations, youths born in this place are swallowed by this evil spirit.   The hero too is swallowed by this evil spirit. But what drives him to break the spell of curse forms the crux of the story.

  'The Director, who invited me to write dialogues for this film, narrated the story for close to three hours -- not just by describing the frames but performing them, as well.  I left without uttering a single word. I can feel the heat of the story settling deep inside me and captivating me to the core. It took two full days for me to settle down to normality' says Pa Raghavan, the dialogue writer. Besides this, Pa. Raghavan has written dialogues for Karan's Kanakavel Kaaka, which is going to be released soon. 

Vairamuthu and Vidhyasagar have joined hands to create a celebratory and soothing musical treat. 
 A highly professional team comprising of Karan, Anjali, Saravanan, Kanja Karuppu, Vennira Aadai Moorthy, Cameraman Anjaneyalu, Editor Suresh Ars, Stunt Master Kanal Kannal have been formed to deliver superior output. First shooting session took place at Kanyakumari - Kerala border for 35 days. 
 Director Vadivudayan has presented the movie without compromising on the nativity and the reality. Vadivudayan is a student of Shaaji Kailash, a veteran Malyalam Director. 'Sundaram is not an individual. He is an epitome of the present day youth population. Through him, I bring out the story of youths who live in a particular community, their happiness, sorrow, celebration, predicaments, troubles and the intensity of their progress to solution. By depicting Sundaram, I depict the heart and soul of one of the major problems that faces the youths.' says Vadivudayan. 

 Karan is confident too. 'I am sure this is going to be a milestone in my career'.

According to sources, producer Badrakali Vara Prasad Rao is all set to release the film in Hindi and interestingly audiences can see a ‘more-colourful’ Superstar..He says"As Rajini’s Endhiran which was released in Hindi as Robot was a huge success, the producer says” Rajini enjoys superstardom in both Tamil and Hindi film industries. I think this is the best time for me to rerelease the Hindi version of Baasha”..Apparently the producer who had spent quite a sum in colour correcting the film revamped new intermediate negative and have included new graphics for the title card. 
Soures say, the original was screened with mono sound, but the new version will have stereo sound and 5.1 channel.. Music director Deva, who composed the original score, has rerecorded for the Hindi version..
