Music is by Jerome Pushparaj, while Jaguar Thangam has penned the story, dialogues and screenplay besides directing the movie.He seems to have been influenced by Robinhood kind of films like Mudhalvan,Indian and Anniyan. Vengadam is a humble silk weaver living in Kanchivaram, a town in Tamil Nadu known for its fine silk saris. He works weaving expensive saris from the rarest silks, but could never afford the luxurious garments he creates. However, he dreams that by the time his daughter grows up and becomes a woman, he will have woven a sari for her wedding day. To do this he will need patience. Every day he steals single threads of brightly colored silk from his workplace, smuggling them home for the project that will define his life.

There are three heroines involved in this film namely Farzana, Namitha and Jaya Sudha sharing screen space with Sarath. Sarath will play dual role as father and son in this film. The previous films where Sarath played dual roles were 'Suryavansam' and 'Natpukaga' and both these films were huge crowd pullers and grossed well at the box office. Apart from donning a double role, Sarath will also be seen appearing in six different makeovers for this film. According to Sarath ‘1977′ is an action-packed movie with a strong message for the society. ‘I was impressed when I heard the storyline and readily agreed to do the movie’ he said.

Namitha enacts a glamorous actress itself, who takes Sundar c into politics whereas, Ragini who has appeared with Sundar c in his previous movie Sandai, taking the homely part. Vivek’s presence is certain to tickle our humor bone.” So Sundar c is no more “Sweet Rascal” but who morphs from Police officer to Politician to Ordinary young man with burning desire against criminal offences.
